Joined by Julian de Metz (dMFK Architects), Dan explores how the project reimagines a complex, characterful building through careful intervention, material sensitivity, and a deep respect for its past—drawing on Chancery House’s rich history and its unique connection to the Silver Vaults beneath.
Together, they discuss the challenges of working within an existing historic structure, the value of “cut and carve” architecture, and how unlocking underused space can create a more intuitive and flexible workplace. They also explore how a restrained material palette helps tie the building together, how design can shape the kinds of occupiers a building attracts, and how workplace culture is reflected through space—including insights from “Downstairs at DMFK,” a living sample library designed to build stronger relationships between materials, makers, designers, and clients.
